If it became a little easier to steal Kia and Hyundai, it wouldn’t matter anymore. Because if your Kia was stolen, you would take the neighbor’s car, right? In the evening, you drive home in your colleague’s Hyundai, and the next morning your neighbor takes it across the street. Just like scooters in Prague or Berlin. What you need to steal a Kia or Hyundai is something like a Nintendo Game Boy.
It’s a delicious headline above the article, of course, but the heist has nothing to do with a real Game Boy. A criminal syndicate has created a device to steal modern Kia and Hyundai cars, and they’ve packaged it in something that looks like an old Game Boy. Apparently, the criminals also have to make the act a little fun.
Another previously discredited theft method
The Game Boy tricks the car’s systems, making Hyundai or Kia think the key is there. So, this isn’t the same stealing method that the Kia Boys have been promoting on TikTok. The trend has focused on cars without immobilizers. This is the second time that South Korean brands’ cars have come under fire for being easy to steal.
The problem has been going on for some time, but it seems that the issue has suddenly been picked up by the media. And this time, the problem is not limited to the United States only, Kia cars are being stolen this way in Europe as well. Below you can see how Alberto Stegman’s Polish cousin went out to steal a Kia Niro with a Game Boy.
Where can you buy such a device? We will not tell. Inside EVs Reports indicate that vendors of these devices say that the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60 are easy to capture with the device. Other models are a bit more difficult and require a unique PIN code, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Niro.
