A military court in Kinshasa handed down life sentences to two Congolese police officers and a female soldier on Saturday for torture to death. The trial was broadcast on state television.

The head of the Kinshasa war court said that Colonel Mubebe, the head of the General Intelligence of the National Police of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Captain Nzeta who interrogated the detainee, and Brigadier General Diamisevi and Machaba who tortured him “were sentenced to life imprisonment”. .
The court considered Colonel Mubebe the intellectual culprit of the murder, while the captain and the brigadier general were the perpetrators of the torture that led to the death of Olivier Mbonga (32).
The police arrested Olivier Mbonga for stealing a car. The fugitive owner of the car that accused him of theft, Simone Ecamba. “He gave the police $100 and incited the officers to torture the victim,” said Mbonga’s lawyer.
