Four people were killed when a train collided with a group of runners near Barcelona this evening. Spanish media reported this news. Local media reported that the victims may have come from an outdoor techno festival in the area.
The four were part of a group of seven people who crossed the tracks in an unauthorized place, according to Catalonia’s Civil Protection.
Spanish railway company Renfe said the accident occurred at around 8:22 pm in Montmelo. At the scene of the accident, there was a curve with difficult visibility. The train driver was unable to avoid the collision. There were about 170 passengers on board the train, but none of them were hurt.

Emergency services arrived en masse. This included nine ambulances and a helicopter. Three psychologists were also deployed and the fire brigade sent seven teams.
Three people died instantly. One person was seriously injured and later died. The other three contestants were taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
The Catalan police opened an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy.
