After the election, Fox News reported that voting machines from manufacturer Dominion Voting Systems, used in 28 states, had been tampered with. Trump will be the real winner of the election. For months, this conspiracy theory has been floated on Fox News, by the likes of Sidney Powell, attorney Rudy Giuliani, and Trump himself.
Dominion didn’t let that pass. The company sued for $1.6 billion, a tenth of the total value of Fox News, in a defamation suit. The first session was scheduled for Tuesday. According to experts, the chance of losing Fox was great.
While Fox News faces like Tucker Carlson have been sharing misinformation about voter fraud on camera, among colleagues they’ve made it clear that they don’t believe many of the claims. However, millions of Americans believe in a conspiracy theory that their own trusted news channel does not believe in. The reason was simple: ratings. The channel feared that the public would switch to niche channels such as One America News and Newsmax, which are more right-wing and biased, and which shamelessly imitate Trump’s fraudulent narrative.
