The Game ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has been available since October 26th on PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC. Unlike Marvel’s Avengers from last year, this time it’s a 100% single player game. More good news: the game is entirely developed by Canadian studio Edios Montréal, who have already proven by their excellent reboot of the “Tomb Raider” series that they do indeed have a talent for single players.
Inspired by the comics and the films Guardians of the Galaxy, the game immerses you in a completely original adventure. You’re wearing the shoes of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, not the most refined hero in the galaxy but has a charismatic and likable personality. On his ship Milan, he travels across the universe with his team: Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora and Drax. If you have ever watched the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”, you know that they excel not only in their jokes but also in their music. This formula can also be found throughout the game. You follow the constant bickering between the diverse crew members from the front row: Drax takes everything literally, Rocket Raccoon gets into a fight with everyone and Groot just says “I’m a Groot”. All of them topped songs from the eighties of the last century. What a joy to battle with the tunes of “The Final Countdown”, “Take on Me” and “Tainted Love”.
The gameplay is of the same level. It is not possible to play directly with the other members of the Guardians, but they are nonetheless focused. To progress in the game, you need to activate interactions between them and certain elements in the environment. During the many confrontations, you match your character’s attacks with those of your four companions. This might sound complicated on paper, but in practice you can master it in the blink of an eye. Guardians of the Galaxy is not an open world game. As a player you have somewhat limited freedom. The game is very linear, but that does not spoil the fun.
What’s on the menu in this action adventure: Lots of battles and discussions, little exploration and puzzles to solve, QTEs, some maneuvering missions on your ship and above all a powerful, rich and varied adventure. You are also kind to her, because it took us about 20 hours to finish the 16 chapters of the game. As sparkling on the cake, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a visual hit, too. We tested the game on Xbox Series X and it simply looked amazing, one of the most beautiful games of the new generation. There’s no doubt about it: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is this year’s pleasant surprise.
