Geert Verhulst files complaint against scammers abusing his name online: 'Damage runs into millions' | television

televisionGeert Verhulst (56 years old) filed a complaint against strangers who misused his name online. Didn't help. 73-year-old Willy van Roosbrouck responded to a fraudulent investment ad from Gert Verhulst and lost more than €300,000 to the scammers. “Everyone thinks you're a good businessman, and that creates trust.”

Geert Verhulst who said, “He can make anyone a millionaire within four months.” This was the ad that attracted 73-year-old Willy van Rosebrouck four years ago. Only the ad came from a fake investment platform. Willy eventually lost 300,000 euros.

“They used my name in this ad, did that convince you?” Geert Verhulst asks Willy in “Gert's Table.” “Yes, of course,” the man admits. Willy is not the only one, because there are likely more victims. “It's about trust,” explains data protection lawyer Majali Weiss. “We won't hide it now, but Gert, you are successful. Everyone thinks you are a good businessman, and that creates confidence.

Willie was repeatedly convinced to invest money in an investment platform called Qteck. When it turned out to be fraudulent investments a few months later, Willie's courage sank. The man lost at least €325,945 to scammers.

Geert Verhulst is also at the heart of this. “I must honestly say that I filed a complaint against this. But they also said that the whole matter is out there and that the complaint actually has no meaning.” “But the damage is insanely extensive. This example is now about €300,000, but if you add it all together, it's millions, right?” This is something that lawyer Majali Weiss agrees with.
