Wouter Franken: “We have to keep up with the strength of Circle”
The regular competition was not of the highest standard, but the start of the qualifiers completely brought optimism back to Genk. “We have already had difficult moments this season, so you can also enjoy the good moments,” Wouter Franken told our correspondent in the run-up to the match against Cercle.
“Stability – especially in defense – has always been good, but we have often lacked quality. But things have gone better in the last two games, and that's where we've made the difference. As the boys radiate confidence again, then it drops.” The money will go to the right side faster.”
With Cercle Brugge, a tough customer awaits the Limburger on Saturday. “They play a very specific style, and they execute it very well,” Franken said. “But there are always solutions. The requirement is that you go with the intensity, and then you can look for opportunities based on quality.”
If Genk wins, it will be two points away from the leaders. Does this add fuel to the fire among Limburgers? “It can definitely be a motivation, but the most important thing is to be humble and stay strong.”
