German conservationists sounded the alarm about killing wolves

In Germany, wolves are shot illegally. The nature organization Naturschutzbund Deutschland, (NABU) warns of this.

At the end of September alone, three animals were found dead in the northern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This brings the number of wolves killed without a hunting permit this year to 11, which means more wolves have been killed than in previous years, environmentalists have warned.

Eight animals were killed illegally in 2020 and nine in 2018 and 2019. That is without taking into account cases that were never reported.

Since the wolf’s return to Germany in 2000, 64 animals have been killed illegally. NABU asks: “Each of these cases is a crime and should be prosecuted.” However, according to the regulation of nature, this never happens. Moreover, illegal hunting in Germany is carried out not only on wolves, but also on lynxes and birds of prey.

According to the latest figures, in Germany there are 128 wolf packs, 39 pairs of wolves and nine solitary animals. In 2020, 942 wolf attacks on livestock were recorded, mostly in Brandenburg and Lower Saxony.
