Ghent Light Festival features drones and artificial intelligence | She sang

The Ghent Light Festival will bring 32 works of art to the area around Nieuwe Dokken early next year. Artists will build installations using modern technology such as artificial intelligence and drones. But traditional techniques such as stained glass also provide a spectacular spectacle at the sixth edition of the Festival of Light, which was introduced on Tuesday.

National and international artists participate in the Festival of Light. This relates to both emerging talent and established values. The crowd attraction will be a giant red ball designed by Spanish artist SpY, which will dominate Schipperskaai. There are also colorful soap bubbles from Australia’s Atelier Sisu in Dok Zuid.

Messages to space

Almost half of the businesses have a Ghent approach and there are many collaborations with Ghent organizations and companies. Belgium’s oldest glass studio, Atelier Mestdagh, has a hand in the artworks at Stadshal and Baudelohof. Artist Claudia Reh works with Ghent students and local residents to bathe the sleeping street in blue.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is using “augmented reality” to show how satellite images help humanity. Ghent’s company, Fisheye, sends messages from visitors into space using Morse code. The full program was unveiled at the Aula Academica in Ghent. The “CONUS” is being used there until December 6 as a preview of the festival: a temporary artwork with orange cones around the columns of the stately building, which will be renovated into a convention center next year.

The Ghent Light Festival runs from Wednesday 31 January to Sunday 4 February 2024. All works have been collected in this website.
