A week ago there was still a lot of faith in a good result, and now the curtain has fallen on Zulte Waregem at 1A. Gilles Fossen was moved to tears after that.
“This is a huge disappointment. The biggest disappointment of my career so far,” said Gelle Fossen candidly after the 3-2 win against Cercle Brugge.
“We had the chance to do it in the last game, but it didn’t work out. That’s the story of the whole season: just no. A few centimeters offside, otherwise it’s 3-2.”
“Zulte Waregem is not a club for 1B, that’s clear. And we made that clear again in this match. Thanks also to the fans, who we really have to thank after this match.”
“We came close to it. In the dressing room everyone was particularly frustrated. It’s frustrating in all of our qualities.”
I still play football
“Especially after the new year we had 1A qualities. Because of injuries and suspensions we were never at our full strength.”
The question remains: Where does his future lie? “The club is now more important than me, and that’s something we haven’t been able to see yet. It’s too bad for the fans. With their support, we feel like we’ve failed as a player. I still want to play football anyway, that shows.”
