In the derby between Zulte-Waregem and Dinze, both neighbors were hoping to put an end to this unpleasant statistic. Zulte Waregem had yet to win at home in 1B, and Deinze had yet to win away from home.
Deinze was the first to find the opening on the half hour. The offside trap at Essevee was clumsily lifted, allowing Staelens to get out. Mertens’ separate serve in front of goal: 0-1.
Zulte Waregem had to respond and increase the tempo after the break. This quickly created more pressure, but the equalizer had to wait until the 70th minute.
After a quick one-on-one mix, Vossen was served by Vormer. Captain Breshchenenko broke through quickly and neatly equalized into the far corner.
Vossen was now completely disintegrated. Five minutes later, Jano’s dipped shot ended up at the feet of his striker brother, who scored the 2-1 winner in one fell swoop.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Dainese tried to avoid another away defeat, but to no avail. Essevee held on and recorded his first home win in the Challenger Pro League.
They are top of the table, but Lommel could take charge again on Sunday against Franks Borrens.
