Google’s new streaming player has been spotted in leaked images. The TV box looks very different from the current Chromecast. Also notable: Google is saying goodbye to the Chromecast name.
Images of the Google TV Streamer, which will be the successor to the Chromecast, have been leaked. Google is moving away from the oval design of its HDMI dongle, according to images obtained by 9to5Google.
The new gadget will have a shape that looks a lot like a set-top box, but is much smaller and has a sloping surface. There are also two cables protruding from the back, presumably for power and HDMI.

Not only will the Chromecast look be gone, but so will the product name. According to 9to5Google, the Chromecast name is giving way to the boring “Google TV Streamer.”
The first Chromecast was released on the market in 2013. It is not known how many units were sold in total, but in 2017 the counter already reached 55 million copies. The latest version is Chromecast with Google TV, which was launched in the United States in 2020 and will be released in the Netherlands in 2022.

The leaked remote for the new Google TV Streamer looks similar to the latest Chromecast remote in appearance, but there are a few changes. The new remote is slightly longer than the current one and all sorts of buttons have been changed. For example, the volume rocker has been moved from the right side to the front. The home button and the voice control button are also in different places.
The Google TV Streamer is likely to be unveiled during Google’s event on August 13. The Pixel 9 phones and Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch will also be announced there.
