Luca Brecel scored two clear victories in one day at the Welsh Open Snooker Championship. First, the world champion defeated former world champion Graeme Dott with a score of 4-1, and then defeated Tom Ford by the same numbers. It took him to the quarterfinals of the classification tournament as world champion for the first time.
Following yesterday's 4-0 win over Joe O'Connor, Luca Brecel also hit a high against Graeme Dott, the 2006 world champion.
After missing the Scot, the current world champion immediately hit mercilessly with a century (101). He then won the second frame by 82 points.
With a beautiful transition from yellow to green, Bressel continued to entertain the crowd: 3-0 to the Belgian.
After a wrong assessment of the snooker, Dutt managed to maintain the honor in the fourth frame with a century (105).
In the fifth frame, Bressel decided with a beautiful snooker and broke 75 points.
In the 1/8 finals against England's Tom Ford (WR-18), Pressel continued his momentum. He trailed 1-0, but then dictated the law.
“I'm happy about it,” Pressel said after winning twice in one day. “The further I progressed, the stronger my focus became.”
In his first ranking tournament quarterfinal as world champion, Bressel will face Marco Fu (WR-86) or Martin O'Donnell (WR-76) on Friday.
