There is little that has been salvaged from Standard. Now they are believed to have made it 3-3 at KV Mechelen, as no one knows if it was the last match under Besnik Hasi or not. However, at least they were able to celebrate together again. This was largely thanks to Lauberbach.
The uncertainty over the coach seems to be nothing compared to the problems Standard are facing. The Roches initially presented themselves in Mechelen as their own horror season. They would often stand there and watch him. It was Michelin who took the lead in the first 45 minutes.
Striker KVM Lauberbach can score out of nowhere
Ebolo was able to correct his poor pass on Bavedeli’s first chance and tip a Merabti shot over the crossbar. It was a successful strike as Lauberbach accurately scored 1-0 past the post. Suddenly things were not going well for the man known for missing big chances: he scored a cross from Foulon and the score was 2-0.
A place ball from Pflücke hit the post. On his signal, Bafdeli forced Ebulo to make another save with a header. The 19-year-old goalkeeper also blocked a shot from Schoofs. The most surprising thing was that Price scored a shot at the other end and Cook had to intervene.
It could have been even more surprising: one of Leko’s three first-half substitutions had a quick impact. Lawrence headed in after Kwabe’s cross (2-1). The rest of the match didn’t matter much until it became clear that the sting was in the tail. Cook fired in a shot from Price, Bendjedi made it 2-2 early in the second half.
The crazy final stage in KVM – Standard
Hopefully the Rouches can also show that resilience as a club in the future. This was not enough to achieve a result in this match. Luberbach headed a Cubot cross at the far post in the 90th minute. Fossey made it 3-3 in the 97th minute, but the video assistant referee and referee Wim Smit ruled it out for offside.
