Hideo Kojima will once again be working on an action spy game

Legendary game developer Hideo Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions have been very busy. During the recent State of Play presentation, a third game project was announced.

Kojima Productions is currently working on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for PlayStation and Overdose for Xbox and now Kojima has also announced an action spy game. This game is developed for PlayStation. Not much is known about this project other than that Kojima aims to bridge the barrier between gameplay and cinema. In the announcement video, Kojima alludes several times to the films and that Sony is producing the films themselves as well. Kojima's new game may also have a direct relationship with Sony Pictures.

Kojima became known for his espionage work while working for Konami on the Metal Gear series. Kojima is the creator and visionary of all Metal Gear games with the exception of the disappointing zombie game Metal Gear Survive. Kojima says he will soon be developing games for 40 years and wants to celebrate that by going back to the roots of his career in game development. Kojima's new game will not be a Metal Gear game, as Konami owns the rights to it. The new action spy game will be a brand new IP, but full production won't begin until after the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. So we have to be patient for a few more years.

Hideo Kojima talks about a new spy game:

“It will be a completely new original IP, a next-gen spy game,” Hideo Kojima, founder of Kojima Productions, said during today's State of Play presentation. “Preparations are underway, but production will begin in earnest at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2. We have extensive experience with Sony, having developed the espionage genre together for almost 30 years. Sony does not only games, but also music and films. It will definitely be A strong collaboration. Two years from now, I will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of my career in game production. I am confident that this title will be the culmination of my work.

Kojima continued: “I can’t tell you much now, but we plan to combine cutting-edge technology and talent from all over the world to create it. Of course, it's an interactive game, but it's also a movie at the same time, in terms of format, story, theme, cast, acting, costumes and sound. With this title, we hope to cross the barriers between movies and video games.
