Deputy Commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Andrei Bali was killed while fighting with Ukrainian forces in Mariupol. This was reported by the governor of Sevastopol.
Andrei Pale, 51, was killed “when he tried to liberate Mariupol from the Ukrainian Nazis”. This is what Mikhail Razvoyaev, the governor of Sevastopol, said in a message on Telegram on Sunday. Located in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, Sevastopol is the port city where the Black Sea Fleet is located and its main base.
According to Russian media, Bali was also the deputy commander of Russian forces in Syria in 2020. Since September 2015, Russia has provided military support to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
The Russian Navy has not confirmed his death. Earlier today, Ukrainian authorities reported that the Russian army had again lost some senior military personnel – including commanders of the Parachute Regiment – but those reports could not be verified.
The Russian army itself is still on the ground to confirm the deaths of its top soldiers. But it did so with the 47-year-old commander of Russia’s 7th Airborne Division Andrei Sokovitsky, who was killed early this month.
