He is the third Belgian to win the title at a Grand Slam tournament. Jacky Brichant in 1947 and Kimmer Copegans in 2012 have both done it for Blockx, both on the cobbles of Roland Garros. So Blockx is the first on hard courts at the Australian Open. Historic achievement.
“It’s my first time here in Melbourne. I’ve been so prepared for this tournament, I’ve trained hard and it paid off. Every game played better and better. Today was the real thing.” crazyBlockx said next. “It may not have been the best tennis I’ve ever played, but the way I fought today in that third set…that’s one of the biggest victories of my life.”
“It feels really good,” laughs Blockx, who keeps his feet on the ground: “Of course they’re just the guys, not the guys. I just have to keep working hard and hopefully one day I can do the same with ‘real’ guys.”

On Friday, Alexander Blocks missed out on the doubles title in Melbourne. Alongside Brazil’s Joao Fonseca, he lost 6–4 twice in the final to singles opponent Lerner Tian and seventh seed Cooper Williams of the United States.
