How many extra calories can you eat when you’re pregnant?

Sure, if the baby is growing inside your body, you better treat yourself to a little chocolate, a bowl of chips or a milkshake with cream. But food for two? This turns out to be one of the biggest pregnancy myths.

extra calories

Nobody needs an excuse to empty a tub of Ben & Jerry’s, especially when you’re pregnant. Just don’t make it an everyday thing, because you need a lot of extra calories while you’re eating Pregnancy Do not enter at all.

In fact, according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, you don’t need to eat extra calories at all for the first six months of pregnancy. Only when you reach your last trimester will you benefit from an extra 200 calories a day. That’s hardly an extra sandwich with butter and cheese.

No idea

An NCP survey shows that many women think they can eat too much during pregnancy. Of the 2,100 mothers studied, 33 percent thought they could eat at least 300 calories. A quarter of the women surveyed honestly admitted using “food for two” as an excuse to eat unhealthy snacks.

Alex Davis van NCP explains that expectant mothers shouldn’t eat too much. “Eating healthy food and consuming healthy amounts of meals is important before, during and after pregnancy to increase the chances of a normal pregnancy and reduce the risks of pregnancy, childbirth-related complications, and long-term health problems such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.”

But do you eat a donut or a bag of chips now and then? It must be possible!
