Huawei does not stand still and has renewed its smartwatch range with the Huawei Watch GT4 series. In this review we dive into the series and see if it’s as fun as last year’s GT3.
Huawei Watch GT4 review
We have the Huawei Watch GT 4 in white with a white leather strap on the table, which is the successor to the Huawei Watch GT 3. At 41mm, this is the smallest watch in the GT4 series and is therefore mainly intended for those who have a somewhat smaller wrist and do not want a Heavy. The 41mm version is available in three colours, white, gold and black. Of course, there is also a 46mm version that is a bit heavier and also has a different color palette, namely green, brown and black.
Huawei Watch GT 4 in use
Huawei has already changed its menu structure in GT3 and we also see this again here in GT4, stylistically it is a bit similar to the Apple Watch. The GT4 has a beautiful AMOLED display that is also easy to read in sunlight. By pressing the large button twice we open the menu full of applications and functions, and the watch quickly responds to our instructions and commands. The nice thing is that you can also read messages as notifications on GT4, so you always stay in the know without having to pick up your smartphone.
What the watch has improved at is tracking your sleep and heart rate rhythm, but it also counts your menstrual cycles more accurately. All because the watch now uses the TruSeen 5.5+ system. The watch can also track your stress level and provide you with a breathing exercise if you need it.
During your workout, you’ll stay informed of your progress via the built-in speaker that tells you how you’re doing. For example, when running, we also find an AI partner that trains with you, so you have an element of competition even without a running companion.
Battery usage
As a general rule, a smaller watch also means a smaller battery, but Huawei has its own HarmonyOS 4.0 feature, which is battery efficient. The charging process lasts for 4 to 5 days on average if you stay connected to your smartphone and receive notifications occasionally. Please note that if you use Always On Display, you will shorten your battery life by approximately half.
Huawei Health
Syncing the GT4 requires using the Huawei Health app, which displays all your steps, sleep data, activities, and other metrics in a fun way. This advanced watch supports not only heart rate measurements, but also SpO2 and body temperature measurements.
In an overview of your recorded activities, the app provides a wealth of information, including a detailed graph of your heart rate, training intensity, and statistics for your cycling or running session. It also includes an interactive map containing the highlights of your activities, such as the moment of the steepest climb.
Huawei is also integrating a “Healthy Living” program into the app, where you have six tasks to complete every day. These tasks range from waking up on time and putting a smile on your face to getting enough exercise and going to bed on time. The nice thing is that the Huawei Health app can also sync data directly to Strava from your last workout.
Apps and watch faces
You’ll find a number of apps pre-installed on the watch, especially things like the compass, a function that allows you to turn on the camera and weather. We also find an app that can advise how many calories you should consume per day, based on your current weight and exercise.
There are some apps available in Huawei AppGallery that are worth discovering, which you can find via the Huawei Health app. Please note that the quality of the apps is lower than that of an Android Wear watch, for example, which can be a limiting factor.
The upside is the wide range of watch faces. Within the Huawei Health app you will find an extensive list of different watch styles. However, it is important to note that in addition to the free watch faces, there are also a large number of paid variants available. If you previously have a Huawei Watch and have already purchased a watch face, you can of course also use it on your new device.
to rule
With the GT4, Huawei has once again released an elegant watch that has been improved at the software level and is more accurate than its predecessor. In terms of hardware, there are no major differences compared to the GT3, but that does not prevent us from choosing the GT4. The GT4 starts at €249 for both the 41mm and 46mm model.
Huawei Watch GT 4 is available in Bol.com, Cool blue, Media market, Belsimple And Amazon.
