Playing Wolverine did not go well with Hugh Jackman’s voice. In an interview with BBC radio show Front Row, the actor and music star said all the growling and screaming caused him permanent damage.
“The sound in my ears is not as strong as it used to be, and it’s really because of all the growling and screaming,” says the Australian actor, who has played the role in Marvel films for about twenty years. “A vocal teacher at drama school would have been really shocked at the things I had to do with my voice.”
Jackman says he learned certain techniques to use his voice well, even if it involved screaming. However, playing Wolverine wasn’t always so good. “I’ve done things that I think hurt my voice.”
Jackman doesn’t just star in movies. He is also on stage as a singer in musicals. He recently appeared in the musical “The Music Man” in New York. Next year, Jackman can be seen as Wolverine in “Deadpool 3”.
