In his hometown of Hannot, Cian Uijtdebroeks (20) will be honored tonight for his excellent year in cycling in 2023. “It’s good that they all followed through on that,” said the rider, who was of course asked about his future at BORA-hansgrohe. “A lot has been said and a lot of it is not true,” Uijtdebroeks told VTM News.
“Big teams eye Cian Uijtdebroeks: Grand Tour’s top emerging talent is on the radar of ten teams,” was the headline in your newspaper last week. Thanks to his strong performances in 2023, including an eighth-place finish in the Vuelta, Uijtdebroeks has gone wild in the transfer market. The jockey himself said about the rumours: “A lot is said and a lot of it is not true.” “I don’t really have much to add. There are a lot of rumors about me potentially leaving, but we’re not working on that at the moment. So I don’t have any transfer news.”
Uijtdebroeks still has a contract until 2024 with his current team BORA-hansgrohe. When asked if he would lead this team next year, he said: “I will not answer that at the moment. I have no comment on those matters at the moment.”
Naturally, the 20-year-old racer is intrigued by the interest from other teams. “That’s always flattering. I see it as a compliment. We’ll see later what, if any, is a good decision. I can’t say anything at this point. The arrival of Primoz (Roglic, editor) doesn’t change the situation at all.”
