Sam Baker is the youngest climber to climb the famous El Capitan rock in Yosemite National Park. That’s what his father Joe Baker said on Facebook. The American and his 8-year-old son reached the top of a 900-meter mountain wall in California on Friday. “What a wonderful week. I’m so proud of Sam,” it looks like on social media.

Young climber enthusiasts can follow the climb all day long via Facebook And the Instagram. On Tuesday, Sam and Joe began their adventure with two other climbers. Four days later and at an altitude of more than 900 meters, the team reached their goal: the summit of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

Joe Baker reported on Facebook that the climbers celebrated the achievement with a mini-party and a disco ball. “We did it! Sam is the youngest to climb ElCap with ropes. He may be breaking more records in a few years. We’ll be glowing for the next days. Tomorrow (Saturday, editor) we’ll walk 8 miles (about 13 kilometers) down.”

An 8-year-old doesn’t get his love of climbing from strangers. Sam’s mother and father are crazy about this sport. His father said, “Before he could walk, Sam was already in a (climb) belt.” Mum Ann told CNN that they have always supported Sam’s adventures. “He seems very happy to be there.” From the valley she followed the trail of her husband and son.

For 18 months, Sam was ready for the hard climb. Father and ex-son Baker also conquered the Moonlight Pillar in Zion National Park, Utah. After that, Joe was sure that his son was ready to receive El Capitan. “He did a great job and showed us that he can handle it.”

The boy also endured a well-known rock climb in Yosemite National Park. However, his father expected the tears to fall “because it is so hard”. “It’s emotional, but Sam was very strong and overcame all obstacles.”

Local radio station KRDO reported that the boy carried his own equipment, as well as water and food while climbing. He slept with his father on the edge of the gate. This is a small platform for two, which is – yes – perpendicular to the cliff.

Enjoy Sam’s amazing performance through photos and videos posted by Joe Baker on Instagram and Facebook.
