Bourse St. AmandasThe municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands has big plans for the Oppuurs Centre. “We are going for more green space and space for our associations, less cars and more by bike on foot. There will be a new village yard, a kindergarten and a BKO, and part of the church will be a banquet hall. The Fleet Green Valley will also be immediately upgraded,” says Chief Mayor Koen van den Heuvel (CD&V) and City Council member Els De Smedt (CD&V).
Puurs-Sint-Amands aspires to renovate every housing center, and with the Oppuurs-Lippelo-Vlietvallei master plan, two sub-municipalities immediately come into play. “We asked the 2,100 Oberst residents what they think could be improved in the village. For example, some of our association sites are in poor condition. In a school environment, people prefer to see less traffic and more green space, and the focus may be more on soft connections And not on a King’s car. After-school childcare is too far away, and the playground could be more attractive.”
Church garden and village square
“In our temporary master plan, the church will have a secondary destination. In the nave is still a quiet space with space for liturgical celebrations, but the new part at the rear of the church has been redesigned as a banquet hall with a kitchen. The parish hall adjacent to the church will be demolished to make space for the church’s green garden. As The old Chiro and KLJ buildings will be demolished and replaced by a new village square. There will be a catering business with a balcony, a few pétanques and green benches, necessary parking and two new buildings.”
“The first new building will be home to our associations, and we will make plans with them as well. There will be meeting rooms, multi-purpose rooms and more. A ‘Community School Building’ will be built right next door, with a new BKO, kindergarten and music class space. Close to the neighborhood park and the upgraded playground. Parents can then easily connect their young children in one place. By redesigning St-Jansplein and the intersection with Baroniestraat, we also ensure a secure connection between out-of-school childcare and school.”
New youth rooms
“We also want to upgrade the stream now hidden behind the church and create a green neighborhood park around it. This park will be connected to Vliet by a walking and cycling path, while a safe passage will be built on Voortstraat to youth areas. The new building for Chiro and KLJ will be located in green surroundings in Vliet. , on the edge of the residential center and easy to reach by bike.”
The Oppurse sports grounds are also being redeveloped, with a new building for the football canteen, changing rooms and a storage area between the training ground and the competition area. We are moving the main car park and entrance to the football fields to Katestrat. De Medlar moves into the new village square, making space for the basketball and petanque courts. Sports fields will also be greener, with more space for broadcasting.”
Demolition work begins
“A few new homes should also be included in this master plan, for both families and seniors. We are planning a number of new smaller projects such as condominium in Baronie and flats and kangaroo houses in Voortstraat… We want to complete this master plan by autumn. Step one It is to build the new youth rooms and create a new parish center in the church. After that, the demolition work can begin, and the building around the church can begin. We want to start that big task in 2025, and hopefully we can finish the works in 2027.”
