Instagram has added a new feature that will surely ring a bell for older millennials. You can now — just like with MySpace — add a song to your account, which people can play when they visit your profile.
From now on, you can enhance your Instagram account with your favorite song. It will then be in your profile bio and people who visit your profile can play it.
The song is on your profile.
Instagram has introduced a new way to further customize your account. In addition to your usual bio, website, pronouns, and avatar, you can now also add a song of your choice to your account. You can choose from the entire Instagram catalog, also known as the same catalog you use when you want to add a song to a post in your feed, Reel, or Story.
For older millennials, this feature will definitely stir up some nostalgia, as this was also possible on MySpace. Unlike MySpace, the song won’t automatically start playing when someone visits your profile, but you’ll have to manually click on the song to hear it. You also don’t have to choose — for now — which of your eight best friends appear on your profile.
This is how I set it up.
To add a song to your account, go to your profile. There, click “Edit” under your bio. You can then search for the perfect song for your profile under “Music.” As with Instagram Stories, you can also choose which part of the song should start playing.
