iOS 16.5: New features coming soon to your iPhone

iOS 16.4 for the iPhone came out last week, but Apple is already working on its successor. The first beta of iOS 16.5 is already out and that beta tells us a thing or two about the next update. Of course, version 16.5 also brings new features to your iPhone — but which ones? And when do you expect the update?

New iOS 16.5 features

iOS 16.5 has some innovations, but there are far fewer than iOS 16.4, which included new emojis, emergency SOS notifications via satellite, and sound isolation in phone calls. Unfortunately, some of the innovations of iOS 16.5 are not coming to the Netherlands. Here’s what’s been discovered in the beta so far:

• You can now have Siri record a screen (video), via a voice command. For now, you can take a screenshot via a button on the control panel.
• Apple is adding a Sports tab to the News app that gives you easy access to news, scores and schedules from your favorite teams and leagues. News app is not available at all in this region.

There is a possibility that more new features will appear in other betas. But we really don’t expect much from it. This could be one of the last releases of iOS 16 and it looks like that software has completely taken shape now.

When will iOS 16.5 be released?

We expect this update sometime in May. Anyway, well before Apple’s WWDC 2023 conference on June 5th. From that moment on, all stocks are targeting iOS 17, the major iPhone update that will be released this fall. By the way, we are expecting a much smaller update before the release of iOS 16.5: iOS 16.4.1 should fix some minor bugs that appeared with iOS 16.4.
