The release of the crews of two Greek oil tankers seized by Iran in the waters of the Persian Gulf in May. This was reported by the Greek public radio ART. Delta Poseidon’s 49 crew and Prudent Warrior’s crew, including ten Greek sailors and one Cypriot, were held hostage at sea in the Persian Gulf for nearly 100 days.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic Republic’s elite military corps, seized oil tankers in the waters of the Persian Gulf in May in retaliation for the Greek authorities’ announcement that they would deliver the Pegasus to the United States. The Greeks had confiscated the pegas at the request of the United States because the tanker was carrying Iranian oil. The United States imposed sanctions on Iran, which particularly affected its oil exports.
Tehran gave the green light to release the crews after 100,000 tons of oil seized by Greek authorities at Washington’s request were returned to the tanker Lana, the new name of the Pegas, at the end of August. Crew release starts tomorrow. First, the crew of the Prudent Warrior, then the crew of the Delta Poseidon.
