Lily-Rose Depp’s big TV appearance has been overshadowed by devastating backlash and plenty of rumors. On The Idol, she plays pop star Jocelyn, who does everything she can to get her status and career back on track after a nervous breakdown. She gradually falls under the spell of a mysterious nightclub owner (and cult leader), played by Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd).
“Is the main character, pop star Jocelyn, inspired by Britney Spears?” Lily-Rose Depp debunks this gossip in a conversation with “Extra”. “No, it’s not based on anyone in particular… We’re definitely not trying to tell someone else’s story, we’re creating our own.” She continues: “This is a fictional character and a fictional story. There were many different people who inspired me for this role. Some of them were pop stars, some of them were not.”
“I wanted Jocelyn to feel at the same time as the queen of modern-day pop, but also as someone who was out there in her own world and in her own time. So I took inspiration from a lot of actresses like Gene Tierney and Sharon Stone. I find women like that very inspiring.” .
“Idol” can be seen with us from June 5, 2023 at Streamz.
