“It is not normal how many people have been suffering for weeks now.”

Are you also in the club? Chances are, like me, you’ve been sniffing one tissue after another for weeks. You’re gargling from the depths of your lungs. That your throat is sandpaper. Maybe not sick enough to stay home or in the hospital, but very sick. Headaches, sore throat, chills, cough, and especially that dreaded nose that won’t open. It is not normal how many people have been suffering for weeks. Sometimes you think for a moment that the end of the tunnel is in sight, but then you relapse again. It is a procession from Echternach. This may have something to do with fall and the ongoing bad weather. Viruses and bacteria are everywhere in the air. And maybe you think we should start washing our hands again for thirty seconds. With manual. And disinfect it with alcohol. Maybe we should keep a distance of one and a half meters again. Does anyone have any face masks? Shouldn’t we bring it back? Isolating ourselves? Start living in bubbles. Shouldn’t we ban all the people who, out of principle or rebellion, haven’t taken a flu shot (I got one at work, by the way) from going to a café or restaurant? Shouldn’t we also immediately ban people from sitting on park benches, or from leaving their homes after 10 p.m.? No, won’t we? It would be so crazy. Because even if half the population was gasping now, no one would accept such drastic measures today. See, a couple of years ago I was actually a close follower of all the Covid measures. I didn’t want to go against the government, and of course I wanted to protect myself, but also the weak and the elderly. But every now and then I wonder if I would be a gentle sheep again today if such a virus came to us again? Me, who required a Covid test of everyone who came to eat with me, long after it was mandatory, but who now lives sniffling as if nothing is wrong?
