Mike Vanhamel did not board the team bus to Roeselare this afternoon. The 32-year-old goalkeeper is once again the number one choice under the bar at Biershot this season, but he has been receiving threats and insults from fans for months across social media.
Initially, it was reported that he would not be playing against Club NXT today on his own initiative. In the meantime, Berchot clarified that another club has a concrete interest in Fanamel, and therefore this morning it was decided by mutual consultation not to include it in the substance of the competition.
Threats
Since Vanamel lost his team captain and starting position last season for additional sporting reasons, he has been the head coach of the Gott team for the Beerchot supporters. The fact that his replacement Wouter Bibau made it clear when he left that he only wanted to stay with Beerchot if Mike Vanhamel was to leave, reinforced that sentiment. Fanamel kept his lips pursed, though he was anxious to respond himself. However, the club refused to give him any interviews about the situation. Vanamel may have played his last game for Beerchot in the meantime. Follow.
