Adnan Januzaj criticized Victor Orta, Sevilla's sporting director, on social media. The latter tried to push Januzaj towards leaving the Spanish club during the winter Mercato, but he saw how no transfer deal had been formalized. Orta then accused Januzaj of deliberately obstructing an outbound transfer, but according to the Belgian striker, this claim could not be further from the truth.
“I am writing this letter in response to recent statements made by Victor Orta, who has accused me of a series of completely inappropriate statements. I would like to stress that I have never deliberately stood in the way of a transfer or refused to leave the club when there was a good offer on the table.” There was Some offers, but I rejected them because I did not consider them suitable destinations for various reasons,” says Januzaj.
“Orta is not telling the truth and knows very well how I felt about things. Never before, in my twelve years as a professional footballer, have I had a problem with someone. However, I must say now that I find my sporting director's words offensive and I deeply regret them.” “Orta's actions are completely inappropriate, while I have always acted respectfully. I want nothing more than to help this club and my teammates on the field.”
Januzaj rarely played for Sevilla this season. Since the beginning of the season, he has only accumulated three hundred playing minutes. He was not in the starting lineup once in the competition.
