Jim Sells, of American duo Soft Rock Sales and Crofts, dies Music

Jim Seals, half of the American duo Seals & Crofts, has died at the age of 80. The BBC confirmed this on Wednesday after a message from his family.

Both Seals and Dash Crofts were born in Texas. They first bumped into each other when Crofts was the drummer for a local band.

In 1969, the duo secured their first record deal as Seals & Crofts. A second later, this time with Warner Brothers, they recorded privately with the albums “Summer Breeze” (1972) and “Diamond Girl” (1973).

Their biggest hit was the lead single from their hit album from 1972: “Summer Breeze”. Notable singles also include “I’ll Play for You” (1975) and “Castle in the Sands” (1975).

The seal died Monday at his home in Nashville from the effects of an undisclosed chronic illness.
