PropertyA striking moment on Tuesday evening at the Sportpaleis, where the German composer Hans Zimmer (65) stopped on his European tour. The two-time Academy Award winner gave an impressive concert to nearly 15,000 fans, including King Philippe (63) and Princess Eléonore (15). The king had been a fan of Zimmer for the longest time and took his daughter for her birthday.
A special light show, a large orchestra and no less than 300 musical instruments. Those were the ingredients for Hans Zimmer’s live concert at the Antwerp Sportpalis. Music tracks performed at the show came from popular movies like “Gladiator,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Batman,” “The Lion King,” and “Dune.” The German composer was visibly delighted, especially when he announced that he too could count the “King of the Belgians” and Princess Eleonore among the spectators.
According to the palace, this was a private activity of the king and his daughter. King Philip treated Eleonor at her birthday party. She turned 15 on April 16th. King has been a fan of Zimmer for the longest time and regularly tries to catch a concert. A composer can even inspire a king: “I have a piece of music by Hans Zimmer that I would really like to play: ‘The First Step’ from ‘Interstellar,'” Philip stated earlier.
In conversation with De Morgen, Hans Zimmer revealed that the king and his family paid a visit behind the scenes last year. “When we played in Brussels, your King Philip came to his dressing room with his children after the concert. Almost the whole band was there for him, except for Guthrie (the band’s guitarist). He went out to smoke a cigarette. But the King asked specifically about him. So Guthrie was tracked down.” And when he came in, the King put his arm around him, and said, “My greatest dream is to be you one day.” Yes, you have a wonderful King.”
