After a draw against West Ham, only a win was enough for Arsenal against Red Lantern Southampton in the title fight. Also with next week’s showdown and confrontation against rivals Manchester City, “Arsenal” has boosted some confidence better.
But that confidence took a huge hit less than a minute later. Alcaraz put Southampton – with Romeo Lafia once again as a pivot in midfield – ahead.
Less than fifteen minutes later, former Arsenal player Walcott made it 0–2. Disaster threatened Arsenal, which were able to be mitigated by Martinelli not long in coming. Then, the home team went looking 2-2 up, but bit their teeth on the ruthless Southampton.
Just after the hour had passed, Kalita Carr suddenly delivered another push to the commander. Arsenal still had 25 minutes to avoid a complete collapse and managed to thank star players Odegaard and Saka at the end. These two fast women could still avoid defeat.
In injury time, substitute Leandro Trossard scored the winning goal at his own foot, but his effort cracked the crossbar. Thus, Arsenal suffers an exorbitant loss of points in the battle for the title. Manchester City is smiling and could come close to two points next Wednesday with a win.
