Lenovo shows Motorola 5G neckband to drive virtual and augmented reality goggles – Sound and Vision – News

Lenovo has announced a Motorola “neckband” intended to power lightweight VR and AR headsets. The neckband looks like a lanyard and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 soc with a 5G modem.

Lenovo’s parent company displays the Motorola 5G-XR collar belt On his website† It is a kind of chainring with a small rectangular module, in which devices are combined. This unit can be connected to VR or AR glasses and then controlled. This means that the device no longer has to be integrated into the glasses, so the glasses can be made lighter.

Lenovo Reports to Engadget That neck strap houses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 soc, a 5,000mAh battery, a touchpad, a SIM card slot, and various sensors, including a gyroscope, accelerometer, and GPS sensors. The unit weighs about 100 grams. At the back is another unit with speakers and an antenna. The company is working with Verizon in the US on a neckband, which can connect to the provider’s 5G network.

Promotional images show the neck strap being used with Lenovo ThinkReality A3 smart glasses, but the company tells Engadget that the neck strap should work with other devices as well. The device is said to work with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon VR platform and also supports USB-C and DisplayPort 1.4.

It is not known when the device will be released or the cost. Lenovo has reported that the neck tape will target enterprise customers. Verizon told Engadget that it is in talks with “partners in retail, sports and education.”
