Olympic champion Nina Druel has traded her familiar spot on the gymnastics mat for the European Championships with one in the commentary booth. There she saw how her colleagues reached the final of the team competition without any problems.
Belgium owes this, among other things, to the good exercises that Guetta Verkst had on the crossbar and the floor, but especially to the regularity of Lisa Vaillen. On the bridge with uneven bars, the 18-year-old Villen had already set the tone and the last chord came on the last instrument, the jump.
With 13616 (14,200 for the first jump!) I achieved the fourth best result on this machine. In addition, the hair jumped to the top of the singles ranking.
For a moment, Filin was allowed to dream of a medal, but the Italian woman was superior. Martina Maggio made a fatal mistake with her last device, the bridge, which forced her to make peace with bronze rather than silver or gold. The European title went to Asia D’Amato, ahead of Britain’s Alice Kinsella.
“We can be very proud of our team’s performance,” Lisa Vaillin first looked at the team. “I knew it wouldn’t be possible to get third place separately. Those Italian girls are better. But it was nice to sit in that hot seat for a while.”
The Belgians proved that they don’t need Nina Druel to reach the team final, if Druel’s hand is not far off. “It’s a huge difference without Nina,” Juta Verst admits. “She’s one of the most experienced people on the team. But she’s here and we feel her support.”
