Liverpool is the second team to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals. The English caused the goalkeeper to shiver three times and shivered after the 0-1 intermediate game given by Lautaro Martinez, but Alexis Sanchez immediately killed Inter with a stupid red card.
Liverpool – Inter in a nutshell:
- Key moment: On the clock, Lautaro Martinez gives Inter hope once again with a pearl goal. Barely a minute later, Sanchez farted from his sails again with a stupid second yellow card. Liverpool will not get in trouble with a man anymore.
- man of the match: Trent Alexander-Arnold was omnipresent in Liverpool. A great corner kick, free kick or cross. The English right-back does not matter, he has always caused danger. Only his teammates failed.
- noticeable: Inter are the first team to beat Liverpool at Anfield this season. The English Premier League club has not lost at home in more than 28 games, since its league defeat against Fulham, one day a year ago.
- statistics: Not the eighth consecutive win in Liverpool’s Champions League campaign. Thus, the few selected clubs that have succeeded in doing so are limited to Barcelona (in 2002-03) and Bayern Munich (in 2019-2020).
- Prize locker: Liverpool is on its way to a clean sweep. He has already won the League Cup, is in the FA Cup and Champions League quarter-finals, and is still in contention for the new league title.
Matip hits the crossbar, Calhanoglu on Alison
After the 0-2 defeat in Milan, Inter needed a little miracle to qualify for the quarter-finals. However, the visitors did not start the match with the lead in their shoes. An eager Inter took the lead, but bit their teeth into Liverpool’s solid defence.
The host team was in no hurry with the reward in his pocket, but suddenly came close to 1-0 after half an hour. Alexander-Arnold drew a free kick over Matip’s head and it ended on the crossbar. Immediately after that, it was Van Dijk who headed in a corner kick, and Skriniar blocked his attempt.
In an unimpressive first half, Inter were only able to create a real danger in the last minutes. Calhanoglu surprised everyone with a direct free kick, but not Alisson. The Liverpool goalkeeper kept the number zero on the scoreboard with a clever reaction.
Sanchez destroys Raymont after a beautiful goal Martinez
Shortly after the break, the goal box stood in the way of Liverpool for the second time. Handanovic jumped for the ball in front of Jota, but Salah had an open opportunity in the second half. From close range, Al-Qaim was suddenly hit, a rare mistake by Al-Masry.
Liverpool were more excited in the second half, while Inter’s hopes of doing a stunt appeared to be fading. Martinez even unpacked his bag during the hour with a stunning shot. From the edge of the sixteen he shot 0-1 well into the crossover.
It looked exciting for a moment, but a minute later Sanchez miscalculated for Inter. By making an unnecessary foul, he took his second yellow card. Liverpool held out so easily that it came close to a 1-1 draw, but the ball did not enter it. Salah hit the post again and Diaz also failed to score in extra time.
