The British government will keep a close eye on a new version circulating in the UK. AY4.2 may be one of the daughter variants of the delta variant, but it is not yet certain whether it is also more contagious.
“We will not hesitate to take action if necessary,” a government spokesman said. “At the moment, however, there is no indication that the new form is spreading faster.” The new variant has hardly been detected outside the UK, with the exception of three cases in the US and a few in Denmark.
Highest death toll in six months
The number of new coronavirus deaths in the UK has now reached its highest level in more than six months. This relates to 223 deaths in 24 hours. The last time a higher number was recorded was on March 9, when 231 infected people died.
Nearly 50,000 new cases of corona were reported in one day. A spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expects a “particularly harsh” winter for healthcare if the rally continues.
The corona numbers are rising with us too, so are we going to have to wear mouth masks again soon? Check out what the experts say below:
‘The virus is under control’
According to the government, the current measures are keeping the virus under control. There is still a question about the reimposition of Corona restrictions, such as the commitment to the mouth mask or the advice to work from home. But Johnson warned last month that such steps would be necessary if the health care system became overburdened again.
Approximately 79 percent of eligible citizens aged 12 and over have been vaccinated.
