During the Ypres rally, official Ypres rally, Junior Planckart (30) and co-pilot Jens Vanoverschilde (32) crashed heavily on Friday. Planckaert fractured his vertebrae, Vanoverschelde sustained several bruises. Stéphane Lefebvre (31), who was leading, also crashed pretty hard. There was a moment of panic as he rolled over ten times, but he escaped unscathed.
Panic moment at the Ypres Rally after a serious crash by Junior Planckart during the Kimmelberg stage. His car crashed into a wall. Just like co-pilot Jens Vanoverschelde, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, he was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
Planckaert went under the scanner for a back check. “He was in so much pain there, they managed to get out of the car together and then the ambulance took them,” says mother Christa Planckart.

Planckart does not know anything about the exact circumstances of the accident. “Only there were some rocks in that place. Luckily the drivers in such a car are protected by a cage, but what if a rock flies through the windshield…with that they were doing well with a 13th-place finish in the first test, which it really is.” Serious march.
And whether it was a shock to Krista and her husband, Eddie. “It’s scary to wait to hear something like that,” she sighs. “My heart did ‘boenke boenke’. Gathering is dangerous. I wonder why they would want to do something like that, but at this age you can’t stop them, can you. It’s their choice. But he must have been a little shocked now.”
“I’d rather they didn’t,” she continues. “Francesco (son also ed.) raced, and then I was scared too. Cycling is dangerous too. Mother Justa (mother of Eddie, Walter and Willy Planckart, ed.) was also very scared when her sons took part in a sprint.”
Junior Planckart: “It left me with a broken vertebrae”
The unfortunate Junior Planckart gave an update on his injuries on Instagram. It seems that “everything is going relatively well with Jens and me”. “I myself have a broken vertebrae, back pain for Jens, and several bruises. We’ve both been allowed to leave the hospital and we’ll have to take it easy for the next few weeks. But we’ll be back! Thanks for all the messages of support.”
Lefèbvre heavy crash
Stéphane Lefevre also crashed badly during the Ypres Rally. The 31-year-old Frenchman left the track after a steering error. His Citroën C3 flipped over several times. Supporters along the way were in shock, but Lefebvre and his assistant escaped unharmed and with no serious injuries. A small miracle if you look at the pictures below.
