FIFA has suspended Marc Overmars not only in the Netherlands, but around the world as well. Dutch newspaper NRC will find out after exchanging emails with the Football Association. In principle, the technical director cannot (for now) perform his duties in Antwerp.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that Marc Overmars' one-year ban will be applied worldwide.
The Antwerp coach has already been suspended from work in the Netherlands for one year, with an additional year conditional. According to the Dutch newspaper NRC, he will now not be allowed to work in other countries.
Concretely, this means that the 50-year-old Dutchman will have to resign from his position until November 2024.
Marc Overmars has been suspended following reports of inappropriate behavior towards female Ajax employees. For example, he allegedly sent photos of his genitals.
“FIFA can confirm that, at the request of the Royal Dutch Football Association, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to make the sanction imposed by the Dutch Football Association on Mr Marc Overmars applicable worldwide,” the statement read.
Antwerp will take the time to consider this statement and will communicate thereafter.
