“When I left Brazil when I was young, my dream was to play in Europe, especially the Champions League,” Marcelo said during his last press conference as a Real Madrid player. “Now I am leaving as the player with the most trophies at the best club in the world.”
“I can only be grateful that I have been able to live the past 15 years happily, with a smile on my face. I’ve had a few injuries, played great matches and scored goals.”
When he said goodbye, fellow Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard didn’t want to say much about his future. “I will now leave the club that I love, it must sink. At the moment there is nothing yet. If there is, I will tell you.”
Marcelo’s farewell, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, is yet another farewell to the Real Madrid player who has given the club many trophies over a decade.
The 34-year-old left-back played a total of 545 games for Real Madrid. His honor list includes 6 La Liga titles, 5 Champions League titles and 2 Cup titles. Marcelo won a total of 25 trophies at “De Koninklijke”, a good number for a club record. And in one of the biggest clubs in the world.
