Mathieu van der Poel knows his teammates on the Olympic road race team in Paris. The current world champion is supported by Dylan van Baarle and Dan Hall. For the women, only the best starting players: Demi Wohlring, Lorena Wiebes, Elin van Dijk and Marianne Vos.
Only three places in the Dutch men’s choice. So Kos Mornhout had no place for the runner Olaf Koeg in his heart.
The women are missing Rejean Markus, the current Dutch time trial champion, and Shirin van Anerweg. Holley, Van Dijk and Vollering will ride both the road race and the Olympic time trial.
“Everyone knows now that I am happy that Mathieu chose to ride only the road race in Paris,” Mornhout explained his choice.
“With a clear focus and a strong path to the Games, we are once again aiming for success with this team. The route takes the riders straight through the streets of Paris and the climbs around Montmartre in particular provide opportunities. Dan and the two will support the leaders and will take part in the time trial.”
Dan Holly recently rode the Giro in the service of Lidl-Trek’s Jonathan Millan, who claimed three stage wins. He placed second in the National Time Trial Championship last year.
