The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has been the victim of a deliberate campaign of hate and misinformation on Twitter. This concludes a report from Bot Sentinel, which identified 83 accounts behind the majority of abusive tweets directed at Meghan and her husband Harry.
She targets both Prince Harry and his wife Meghan on Twitter, but about 80 percent of the insults are directed at her. That’s the conclusion of Bot Sentinel, a tweet analytics company. 114,000 tweets about the couple were analyzed, and 93 accounts believed to be responsible for 70 percent of the insults were identified.
The Bot Sentinel said 55 of these accounts were solely intended to fuel a smear campaign against Meghan and Harry. The other 28 accounts also served mainly to reinforce the message of those initial accounts. In total, the accounts are said to have about 187,631 followers, and the Bot Sentinel estimates that the tweets, which also contain veiled racist language, could total 17 million users on Twitter.
According to the report, there was no “organic” pattern in the interaction between the different accounts, so it appears to be a coordinated effort to hit the pair even harder. After all, most accounts seem to be backed by humans. “We’ve found very little evidence of the use of bots,” said Christopher Buzzi, CEO of Bot Sentinel. Washington Post.
