Microsoft is considering more Xbox Game Pass tiers, including a cloud-only option

Microsoft recently introduced price increases and a new Xbox Game Pass tier called Xbox Game Pass Standard. This added online multiplayer, but first-party games on day one were missing with this subscription, something Xbox fans weren’t happy about.

According to gaming journalist Jez Corden of Windows Central, Microsoft is considering offering two additional tiers of Xbox Game Pass. The first will be a “cloud-only” option. This means you can only stream games over the internet to your smartphone, PC, console, or smart TV. You don’t have direct access to the original games on your PC or console. So no downloads, just streaming games to your device. This subscription is primarily intended for people who play casual games and don’t have an expensive PC or console at home. Streaming a game over the cloud every now and then will be more than enough for these people. This is also a convenient option for people in poorer countries, as many of these people don’t have a PC or console, but they do have a smartphone. By pricing Xbox Game Pass Cloud attractively, Microsoft can reach a huge number of gamers.

Another tier Microsoft is considering is a cheaper Xbox Game Pass option, where you’ll occasionally see commercials. So you’re paying less for the service, but Microsoft will still make money from ads and sponsorships. This would also be a good option to reach people who don’t spend a lot on video games each year.

It’s still unclear whether these two Xbox Game Pass subscriptions will actually come to fruition. Microsoft is said to be considering it, but no decision has been made yet.
