Many PCs are still running Windows 10, even though the successor, Windows 11, was released three years ago. Microsoft recently tried to convince Windows 10 users to upgrade with annoying full-screen notifications in the system, but the company is now backing down.
It seems that Microsoft has listened to all the negative feedback about ads in Windows 10 and will be going away for now. Stop ads And pop-ups promoting Windows 11. The company decided to do this in order to “respond to feedback from our users.”
It’s not yet clear whether Microsoft will stop completely or whether the company will later resume intrusive notifications, but the company will clarify that in “a few months.”
Windows 10 support ends
It’s no coincidence that Microsoft wants to lure users to Windows 11. Windows 10 will no longer be supported as of October 14, 2025. After that, your Windows 10 PC will become less secure, unless you pay Microsoft an annual fee to receive security updates. So it’s possible that Microsoft will show upgrade ads again later.
There’s also still a lot of work to be done before everyone switches to Windows 11. It’s currently rolling out 65 percent Of Windows devices still running Windows 10, only 30 percent are running Windows 11. Unfortunately, in many cases, your PC can’t be updated to the new version of Windows, as you need a fairly new processor to qualify for Windows 11.
Old computers become waste
In most cases, that means you’ll have to buy a new computer in just over a year if you want to stay safe. Unfortunately for the environment, it also probably means a huge number of laptops and PCs will be thrown away.
