In the conference group stage, Anderlecht will play Steaua Bucharest tonight. The people of Brussels are not ready for the test against the Romanians, and this will be the seventh time that the two teams meet.
On April 2, 1986, Anderlecht and Steaua Bucharest met for the first time. She fought in the semi-finals of the European Cup for a place in the final against Barcelona.
Anderlecht won the match at home 1-0 thanks to a goal by Enzo Schivu. But in Bucharest they gave up that lead anyway and lost 3-0. Bucharest will defeat Barcelona in the final thanks to a penalty shootout.
October 22, 1986: First European Cup Final 1/16
A year later they met again. This time they competed for a place in the European Cup quarter-finals. Anderlecht wanted revenge and got it, the Brussels team won 3-0 at home. In a crazy 10 minutes, Krincevich and Jansen took care of the end result.
They lost the second leg 1-0, but Anderlecht advanced to the quarter-finals, losing to Bayern Munich.
November 23, 1994: UEFA Champions League group stage
The last confrontation between the Romanian, purple and white was in 1994. Then the two teams met in the group stage of the Champions League.
There wasn’t much of a scene. The first leg in Brussels ended 0-0 and Anderlecht had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Bucharest.
The Brussels team fell by ten minutes after 37 minutes, but took the lead thanks to John Bosman. In the second half, Johann Boskamp’s men had to allow a draw.
