Municipalities and GGD work together in GALA and IZA

Publication date: 11/24/2023 at 11:50 am

In the spring and summer, the municipalities and GGD West Brabant worked together on local plans for GALA; Healthy and active living agreement. The plans had to be submitted to the VWS at the end of September, and fortunately all West Brabant municipalities got their plan approved.

After two local working sessions in each municipality, we concluded the GALA support process with a regional working session on 28 September in Breda. We also created a regional framework and wrote an annotation of the VNG format for the local plan.

Sebastian Pan opened this latest working session with the words “We are not at the end, but above all at the beginning, the first part is ready, so we will continue. With cooperation in the region, and communication with hashtag#Isa Strengthening the knowledge infrastructure.
Together we focus on prevention. About the transition from illness to health. To reduce the possibility of ending up in health care. To make healthy natural together. After GALA, we now work hard together for public and preventive interests in the regional IZA plan.

Adopting a regional IZA plan is primarily a start

Municipalities, health insurance companies, health care providers and social care organizations conclude agreements for each area in the regional plan IZA (Integrated Care Agreement). There are two plans in West Brabant; One for West Brabant West (Braves Hospital catchment area) and one for West Brabant East (Amphea catchment area). Both plans are based on Regional picture It was made for the entire West Brabant. It is expected to be submitted for decision at a meeting following the AB meeting of the GR GGD on December 7. Regional plans are dynamic in outline to give us space to look for the right depth in detail. Adopting the IZA Regional Plan is therefore once again an essential start: if we make sure the right brackets are included, we can follow up on implementation plans in the coming years.

IZA and GALA: They go together

Both plans arose from a national coalition agreement and seek a common goal: keeping health care quality, accessible and affordable. The approach of both plans is different. GALA is more focused on the preventive aspect, as IZA wants to keep quality care affordable and accessible.

Both agreements address the shortage of healthcare workers and rising healthcare costs, but also involve significant social issues such as:

  • Increased poverty
  • Climate issues
  • aging

Both agreements aim at cooperation between the municipalities/GGD, the relevant area, healthcare providers and health insurance companies. Of course, we start from the resident’s point of view in both plans.

The agreements concluded between IZA and GALA bring together an agenda with agreements in the field of creating a regional infrastructure for prevention and designing five different approaches to the cascade. By January 1, 2025 at the latest, a healthy lifestyle should be an integral part of the regular care of patients and people at risk. There are five sequential approaches that IZA and GALA partners should work on locally and regionally.
