Switzerland took the lead after 55 seconds with a goal from goalkeeper Seferovic. The striker hit the mark after a perfect cross from the right wing of Sylvain Widmer. Portugal coach Fernando Santos brought in some big players like Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota after an hour of playing. But even without the Premier League players, Portugal could not score.
In the remaining hour and a half, despite a number of offensive substitutions, Portugal failed to score. Goalkeeper Jonas Umlin played a leading role for Switzerland with some good saves.
Portugal took over without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was sent on holiday by coach Fernando Santos. The same goes for Joao Moutinho and Rafael Guerrero. Diogo Jota came from Liverpool just an hour later.
Spain beat the Portuguese, who dominated the Czech Republic 2-0, in Malaga. Halfway through the first half, Carlos Soler scored a goal after a good preparatory work by Marco Asensio and fifteen minutes before the end Pablo Sarabia made it 2-0. Spain 8 points from four games, Portugal one point less. Spain reached the Nations League final last year, with France very strong 2-1.
In Division B, Serbia gave up its 2-0 lead in Group 4 in the first leg against Slovenia: 2-2. Zivkovic and former Anderlecht striker Mitrovic’s goals weren’t enough. Norway leads after its 3-2 victory in the Scandinavian derby over Sweden. Erling Braut Haaland scored two goals, including one penalty kick, and Sorloth also scored. For the Swedes, Forsberg and Geocris hit the target.
