Needless to say, Naughty Dog was devastated by the decision, as The Last of Us Online would be an ambitious project that would deliver a captivating experience. A game like this naturally needs a constant stream of updates, additions, expansions, events, and more. Something Naughty Dog didn’t want to give up single-player games for.
Why didn’t Sony allow post-launch content for The Last of Us Online to be developed by another studio with Naughty Dog working as a consultant? No idea. We may never know…
