If the US does not support Israel in launching a large-scale offensive in the city of Rafah, Israel will carry it out without US support. Defeating Hamas is otherwise impossible, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Rafah is located south of Gaza. More than a million Palestinians have been displaced by Israeli attacks. The U.S. government opposes the raid because civilians in the area have nowhere to go. Secretary Blinken discussed these objections with the Israeli Prime Minister during a visit to the Middle East.

“We have no other way to defeat Hamas without entering Rafah and removing the remaining battalions there,” Netanyahu said after discussions with Blingen. “I believe we can do it with the support of the United States, but we will do it alone if necessary.”
