Jupiler Pro LeagueAfter three straight games without a win, KVC Westerlo started again on Saturday afternoon at home with a convincing 2-0 victory over KVC Mechelen. The Ravs put the pressure on the chasers in the playoff battle. The battered Mechelen have barely taken four points away this season and so they still have to work hard in the weeks ahead.
a look. Summary of Westerlo-KV Mechelen
In sunny and atmospheric Kuipje, Westerlo promptly grabbed his opponent by the throat. This resulted in two ready-goal chances within the opening fifteen minutes through Chadli and Van den Kebas also took a dangerous turn. Mechelen, without Storm, Hermans and Da Cruz, could not get out of the clutches. 1-0 through Weissen, substitute for Lyle Foster, who was transferred to Burnley, midway through the first half, didn’t make more than sense. Only after more than half an hour of play did the visitors finally put their noses to the window, but Lavalle and Chouf’s long shots could not threaten Polat. At Kemfanen, Chadli had to leave with an injury before the half-time signal.
Coach Fred Vanderbiest, who replaced the suspended Stephen Devore, stepped in and made two substitutions. Mechelen showed a slightly more attacking drive early in the second half, but was cut short early by a second West goal. Weissen came out well in second place and simply managed to score his second goal of the afternoon.
New and enthusiastic footballer Westerlo never took his foot off the accelerator after a 2-0 run and created more good chances. Mechelen, who had to go on with ten men for another fifteen minutes after a second yellow card for Valvale, had to throw everything into the fray to limit the damage. Hit Quibi sang again as usual. There is still some work to be done in Mechelen next week.
